A malfunctioning AOI results in two main problem areas:
- Pseudo defects (false errors): Your AOI interrupts the production line due to a supposed, but non-existent, error. This leads to losses in overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), cycle time, and an unnecessary burden on the operating personnel.
- Escape (false OK): The most critical case. Your AOI overlooks an actual error (e.g., an open solder joint or a defective component). This error reaches the field and causes the highest consequential costs.
